How can I increase my hydraulic unit’s efficiency, whilst still remaining eco and budget friendly?
This is a question many manufacturers ask themselves; and with economic uncertainty ahead, manufacturers need to ensure they maintain the right balance of efficiency and conformity while at the same time ensuring future business success.
The general view manufacturers take is to look at any ageing equipment they may have and look to replace it with newer, more efficient and power saving parts. While this is the most obvious solution it is usually a costly one, especially if the manufacturer has a large range of hydraulic machinery and componentry.
A good starting point that companies often overlook is the quality of the electricity they have in their business premises. Electric motor performance greatly depends on the quality of electricity being fed to it. With 3 phased power typically being fed to the unit when the starter switch is clicked, even turning the machine on could cause a surge in the power supply thus affecting the motor performance and efficiency as well as leading to possible component wear or failure. A scenario which, with a quality power stream implemented would help to eradicate these issues.
Another popular option, as the title of this blog points to is retrofitting components on your system to help improve performance and efficiency. The motors starter switch can even be replaced with a variable frequency drive (VFD) which can control the motor starting and stopping whilst making sure the process is as energy efficient as possible. An inbuilt power conditioner can also be installed to make the hydraulic motor run more efficiently.
Retrofit components can also save on energy by turning the motor into a type of smart motor so power is channelled to areas that need it, when they need it, and can reduce power to other areas when they are not required. If this system is implemented it could drastically reduce energy bills over a year as well as keeping a business more eco compliant.
